He started his career as set designer with important directors such as Ronconi, Branciaroli, Calenda, Savary, Zeffirelli and he collaborated with scenic designers like Ferrari, Lebois,  Conti and Quaranta. He collaborated with prestigious directors: Brandon, Monti, Paci Dalò, Marini, Nunziata, Ripa di Meana, Cappuccio, Micheli, Barberio Corsetti, Placido,  Martinelli, Van Hoecke, Tiezzi, Motavon and Mazzonis. Regular guest in important Italian and European theatres such as Scala in Milan, Fenice in Venice, Comunale di Bologna, Opera de Lausanne, Wexford Festival Opera, Ravenna Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Mr. Sanchi signed the set for Lo Schiaccianoci rewriting the dramaturgical score with the choreographer Ivan Cavallari. This production views its world première in Perth and in 2014 it has been on Tour with the Opera National du Rhin.

Other projects include sets for Ascanio in Alba directed by Franco Ripa di Meana for La Scala; a new production of Tannhäuser directed by Guy Montavon for Theater Erfurt in Germany; Il ritorno di Don Calandrino at the Pfingsfestpiele in Salzburg, Riccardo Muti conducting; the world première of Nicola Sani’s  Il Tempo Sospeso del Voloat the Festival in Reggio Emilia he then designed: The Nutcracker (Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky) for the West Australian Ballet at the His Majesty's theatre in Perth. This production has been presented in a new dramatic score, re-written by the designer and the choreographer Iva Cavallari.; Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod at the Arena in Verona.  In 2009 with the director Franco Ripa di Meana he created sets for Tosca at the Terme di Caracalla in Rome and the trilogy of La Traviata, Rigoletto e Il Trovatore at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence. Further, for the Teatro Verdi of Trieste in co-production with Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and Teatro San Carlo in Naples he designed the set for La Vedova Allegra working with the director Federico Tiezzi. For the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing he created the set design for L'Elisr d'Amore again with Franco Ripa di Meana. In 2012 he designed Pinocchio for the West Australian Ballet and Otello at Teatro la Fenice (director Francesco Micheli). In 2013 he worked with the director Guy Montavon on a new production of Andrea Chénier at the Staatstheater Nürnberg in Germany.

M° Sanchi will sign the sets for the revival of Roméo et Juliette at the Arena in Verona this summer.

In 2007 he has been invited by VCA (Univeristy of Melbourne, Australia) as Professor in Residence to lead a master in set design. 

He teaches Set design at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Venice.
